There are approximately 290 boarding schools in North America, mainly situated on the east coast of America and in the Ontario region of Canada. Although there are a small number of single sex schools, there is a greater tendency towards coeducational establishments. Most schools follow an American curriculum culminating in the High School Diploma (HS Dip) and advanced placement (AP) qualifications, although there are an increasing number of schools also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB DP).
